Joseph D. Knott, Managing Director

Joe Knott is the CEO and founder of The Pangaea Group: a Canadian professional services firm focused on the needs of the healthcare industry.  Joe has created a network of senior executives that allows Pangaea to bring a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience to the business challenges of Pangaea’s clients.   The Pangaea Group has recently prepared business reviews and managed product launches of the Natural Health Products channel.

Joe has over thirty-five years experience in the pharmaceutical related sectors, commencing his career within the Pennwalt Corporation and building upon this career to President of Fisons.  He successfully launched numerous ethical and OTC products, negotiated strategic business alliances, and spearheaded Fisons into an era of strong growth driven by memorable sales and profit achievements.

Joe has held Board / Director positions for the Non-Prescription Drug Manufacturers’ Association of Canada, Canadian Wholesale Drug Association (now CAPDM), and previously the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association of Canada (Rx&D).   In November 2006, Joe was honored by being inducted into the Canadian Healthcare Marketing Hall of Fame.

Tom Callon, Market Analyst

Tom holds a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario.  Tom spent 5 years in the market research industry in both supplier and client roles then moved to IBM Canada.  During his 20 year career at IBM Canada, Tom focused on market research, marketing communication, ROI analysis and sales forecasting metrics.  Tom worked closely with the Sales and Management Leaders in the PC business at IBM to ensure CRM tools and sales forecasts were integrated.  He also developed business and category scorecards to monitor and highlight key sales and product issues.   

As Market Analyst at The Pangaea Group, Tom specializes in turning data into information for Rx and OTC sales as well as performance analysis.

 

Charlotte Cantor, Office Manager

Charlotte holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University. She has more than five years of experience as the Assistant Registrar at Atkinson College.

Over the years, she has also successfully established and maintained two service-oriented businesses where responsibilities included purchasing, sales, advertising and customer relations.

As Project Manager at The Pangaea Group, Charlotte oversees all day-to-day administrative operations including, but not limited to, preparation and editing of all proposals, presentations, correspondence, and mailings. Charlotte also oversees and maintains all client-related projects, maintains client and company files, invoicing and all company financial information.

Wayne Childs, Director

Wayne Childs has over 18 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry starting in sales and progressed through HR, Sales Management, Training and Commercial Operations. Most recently he has held the positions of Director, Sales Effectiveness and Operations at Nycomed and Director, Sales Training with Pharmacia.

Wayne’s diverse background includes experience in OTC’s, as well as General and Specialty markets in many different therapeutic areas including Oncology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Thrombosis, Wound Management, Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, Diabetes,  Pain Management and Diagnostics. As a member of several commercial leadership teams, he has provided insight and input into the commercialization and deployment of resources through several brand launches and review and analysis of in-licensing of business development opportunities. He has also been part of no less than 6 mergers or acquisitions which has allowed him to gain valuable insight and experience on managing within our industry.
Wayne has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Human Biology and two minors in Biochemistry and Biomedicine from the University of Guelph. In addition he has participated in two global programs for high potential managers which has provided valuable experience and knowledge in the area of training. He is a member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA) and the Society of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Trainers (SPBT) and recently sat on the Sales Leadership Advisory Board for IMS Health.

As Director, Development and Training, Wayne’s focus along with his colleagues at The Pangaea Group is on improving and enhancing the leadership and commercial competencies and strategic framework for his clients. This occurs through the improvement in the skills, knowledge and aptitude of the participants. In addition, he provides on-going coaching and specializes in organizational support in the areas of commercial effectiveness through forecasting and planning, segmentation, targeting, deployment and incentive plans.

 

Peggy Cleary, Director

Peggy Cleary is a strategically oriented, innovative expert in organization and leadership development with a strong record of achievement in human resources.    She has over 30 years of senior management and consulting experience, including significant corporate experience in the pharmaceutical industry with Fisons Corporation Limited where she was Director of Human Resources from 1985 to 1994.  In that role she was responsible for all Human Resource functions and for organization development, gaining specific experience in mergers and acquisitions, organization design and restructure, process re-engineering, total quality programs, creating a high performance culture, and ground up development of human resource processes and systems.  Since 1994, she has been a consultant in strategic human resources, leadership and organization development, and business coaching.

Peggy has a BA in Comparative Religion and Humanism from the University of Toronto , holds a diploma in Adult Training and Development from O.I.S.E., is a graduate in Gestalt psychotherapy of the Gestalt Institute of Toronto, and has completed the BCoach Systems, LLC advanced program in business coaching.  She is accredited by The Hay Group to assess, train and coach Emotional Intelligence in Leadership.  

 

Ghislain Gauthier, Director

Ghislain is a graduate in Marketing and Advertising from the École des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal. Throughout his career, he worked in sales and marketing for four major pharmaceutical companies and three advertising agencies. He successfully handled positions of marketing services manager, advertising manager, product manager and marketing director. As part of his functions, he played a key role in the business development team and has managed several sensitive issues in government relations. Part of his responsibilities at ICN Canada, he conducted an in-depth analysis of the generic market and made strategic recommendations for the future of the generic division.

Ghislain has also acted as project manager for a biotech company. His core functions were to prepare the FDA submission of a compound in its early stage of development. He also rewrote the business plan, set up a business development team and handled public relations.

As an account director at Taxi Advertising and Design, he established a pharmaceutical know-how and successfully revamped the professional image of two major brands at Pfizer.

Beverley Herczegh, Director

Bev is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Pharmacy and has worked as a community pharmacist with a major chain for 23 years serving in various roles including full time staff pharmacist, part time staff pharmacist and pharmacy manager.  In 2006 Bev moved over to management of a central fill site servicing long term care facilities exclusively.

Bev has an interest in the role of pharmacists in the larger healthcare picture.  She has worked as a consultant with The Pangaea Group since 1998 helping the pharmaceutical industry relate more effectively with front line pharmacy for the benefit of patients, pharmacy and industry. 

 

Helen Kalra, Director

Helen began her career in pharma over 20 years ago as a sales representative and quickly progressed through various roles in business development, product management and then into a leadership role in Marketing.  Most recently she held the position of Marketing Director for the Gastrointestinal franchise at AstraZeneca Canada Inc. 

She has managed through a range of business situations including corporate restructures, co-promotions, patent expiry, mega-brand launches, hospital strategy for primary care brands and significant changes to reimbursement policy. She has led brand and cross-functional teams that managed the life-cycle of small and large brands in a variety of therapeutic areas. She also led the development and implementation of initiatives or processes that were used as models across organizations such as; launch models, assessments of public sector policy and new strategic planning processes.

Helen has an undergraduate degree in Human Biology with a Biomedical Minor from the University of Guelph. She has represented Canada in Rugby and retired from the sport as Captain of the Canadian Women’s Team.

Helen brings to The Pangaea Group her experience in market, product and portfolio assessments and launching brands in a variety of therapeutic areas including cardiology, mental health/schizophrenia, pain control/anesthesia, respiratory and gastroenterology. The common underpinning of her success is a proven track record in developing enduring partnerships with key customers.

 

Kristen Knott, Director

Kristen Knott began her sales career in Key Account Management within the consumer packaged goods industry with Bathurst Sales, which included Sales and Key Account Management for consumer and health care brands. Kristen then challenged her leadership and sales skills with the IBM Corporation including client solutions from IBM’s Business Consulting Services, and Government Contracted Team Selling.

She received her Human Resource Professional Association (HRPAO) designation through Seneca College’s Human Resources Management Certification Program and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto.

As Director of The Pangaea Group, Kristen is focused on existing clients and expanding the divisions’ offerings. The division manages 1.3 billion dollars in Rx, OTC, and HBA sales in the Canadian marketplace. The Pangaea Group offers Trade Relations, Product Launches, Price Increases, Pharmacy Segmentation, Sales Representative Training, Trade Marketing, and Logistics Consulting to Pharmaceutical / Biotech companies in Canada.

Kristen is actively involved with Industry Associations like CAPDM (Member of Terms and Conditions Committee and Annual Conference Committee) and was awarded with the CAPDM 2007 Most Distinguished Member of the year award. She is also active with the OPMA, NDMAC and CACDS as a committee member.

 

Michael Lamey, Manager

Michael holds a Masters of Science degree in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto.  His master’s thesis has been adapted for publication in the prestigious Journal of Biological Chemistry.  He has extensive knowledge of the mechanism and action of pharmaceuticals and has experience with both laboratory and clinical research. 

Michael has experience in salesforce deployment, forecasting and developing bonus/compensation plans.  He is also active in business development and in managing trade relations for our clients.

With Michael’s extensive background in scientific and analytical research, he provides a strong foundation for consulting in the healthcare industry.  Michael is currently the Manager of The Pangaea Group.

 

Marc Lafoley, Director

Marc Lafoley has more than twenty years of experience in the healthcare industry with a varied background that is an asset to the development, commercialization and lifecycle management of healthcare products such as biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, nutraceuticals, and rapid diagnostics.

Marc’s experience spans multiple disciplines including strategic planning, analytics and forecasting, brand and sales management, eMarketing, patient support and education, as well as medication compliance and persistency. His experience spans multiple therapeutic areas including cardiology (dyslipidemia, hypertension), gynaecology, haematology, oncology, pain management, neurology, radiology, urology, and virology. Throughout his career, Marc launched and supported the launch of 8 products and the creation of 4 markets.  His strength is bridging the science to meet the commercial needs of a brand and market. Marc has worked at two multinational biopharmaceutical companies, an eLearning agency and a pharmaceutical consulting group.

His dedication to help improve patients afflicted with diseases was recognized by the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society when Marc was presented with the MS Leadership Award in recognition of his social commitment and contribution to the MS Community.

Marc has an undergraduate degree in Marketing and Finance and a Master of Science in Administration specializing in Marketing from The John Molson School of Business where he has also been a guest lecturer

 

Eddy Leverock, Director

Eddy Leverock has over 15 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry spanning various corporate positions including sales, marketing, business development, government affairs, and corporate communications. Previously, Eddy held the position of Director, Marketing and Business Development at Fournier Pharma Inc.

Prior to joining The Pangaea Group, Eddy was General Manager of a newly formed healthcare company where he focused on Global Strategic Planning for Consumer Healthcare Products.
 
Eddy has a diverse background in various therapeutic areas including respiratory, anti-infectives, gastroenterology, women’s health and cardiovascular. He has experience in global and local brand marketing, commercial business development, market access and team leadership. With this insightful background, Eddy can partner with his clients to offer a wide range of timely solutions for their business needs.

Juergen K. Mueller, Consultant

Juergen Mueller is a Commerce graduate with extensive experience in the healthcare industry. His career path, among others, includes three Toronto-based subsidiaries of international pharmaceutical companies.

He started as a sales representative and progressed to senior positions, which included Director, Sales/Marketing and Business Development Manager. Juergen assumed ever-increasing responsibilities for business, financial and people management in such diverse markets as pharmaceuticals, OTC and consumer packaged goods. He was an elected member of the Canadian Senior Executive Group with two of these companies, and is also a member on various committees with PMAC (now Rx&D), OPMA, CWDA and CTA.

Additionally, Juergen worked with IMS Canada as a Business Unit Manager. As a member of the Canadian Executive Group he was involved in Business Planning, Human Resources Issues as well as Income/Bonus Plans improvements and a major force behind the effective restructuring of the business units dealing with client services.

Prior to his association with The Pangaea Group, Juergen worked as a consultant with a number of North American clinics, hospitals, medical schools and healthcare companies providing innovative human resource solutions.

 

David Renwick, Director

David Renwick has more than 15 years of experience in sales, marketing and general management in the Canadian pharmaceutical industry.  He has held several progressive leadership roles with both large and small companies and has helped lead the growth of a specialty pharmaceutical company from start-up as Director of Sales and Marketing.  As Director, The Pangaea Group and capitalizing on his diverse background and breadth of experience, David is able to bring clients a wide array of commercial solutions at all stages of both company and brand life-cycles.  David specializes in patient adherence, audience segmentation, targeting and resource optimization.

  As part of several leadership teams, David has evaluated and analyzed in-licensing opportunities and developed innovative strategies meeting the needs of complex brand launches and promotion scenarios.  David has worked extensively with both Primary Care and Specialty pharmaceuticals including implementation of a number of Hospital and Specialty sales forces, numerous product pre-launches and post-launches, re-launches and brand re-positionings. 

  Throughout his career with companies such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Procter and Gamble and Oryx, David has worked in many capacities in the commercialization of many therapeutic areas working with brands in Allergy/ Respiratory, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Psychiatry, Rheumatology, Urology and Women's Health. 

 

Marla Weingarten, Consultant

Marla brings to The Pangaea Group over 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She has skillfully managed different aspects of strategic planning including market assessments of new competitive threats and investigational treatment techniques. Through her leadership of cross functional teams, she has managed the development and implementation of detailed communication plans around new clinical data.
 
Marla has worked in a several therapeutic classes including Dyslipidemia, Hypertension, Asthma, Infectious Disease, Oncology as well as Women’s and Men’s Health. As a Marketer, she developed the strategic platform and tactical direction for a number of prescription medicines. Throughout her career, Marla has proven her ability to lead and motivate teams and to foster productive customer relationships both internally and externally.
 
As a consultant, Marla has brought value to her clients by supporting their market research needs, investigating recent clinical data and creating useful communication tools.
 
Marla holds a BSc in physiology from McGill University and an MBA from McMaster University. She is a current contributor to the OPMA website.
